In America they are called hurricanes, in Asia typhoons. The storms originate over warm sea-areas and frequently change its direction without recognizable reason. If they cross Tokyo instead of the Japanese Alps, they cause enormous damage. Scientists are therefore working feverishly to explain the phenomenon in order to improve the reliability of the prediction.
