Ambiguous Losses

For the first time, two sisters adopted from China openly compare their memories, documents and unanswered questions about their beginnings. Their candid conversation reveals the complexities of international adoption, where feelings of abandonment, gratitude, grief and love coexist. Transforming personal archives into intricate collage animation inspired by origami, the film reconstructs the missing pieces of a shared history while embracing the uncertainties that remain.  Ambiguous Losses is part of Alambic, the NFB French Animation Unit’s creative lab for emerging filmmakers.
